Located at the interface of the Canalside District, and Buffalo’s Central Business District, this project involves the adaptive re-use of the former State Offices Building. The project is comprised of an eight story building with a total of 190,000 s.f. gross area to be converted into various professional offices and retail. As part of the jurisdictional review and approval of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, a subsidiary of the New York State Urban Development Corporation, this project will meet the Canal Side Design Guidelines. Positioned along Main Street this structure will serve as the gateway into the Canal Side district.
The adaptive re-use of the project will consist of removing the existing envelope, along with any non-permanent structural elements and renovation of the core spaces of elevators, stairs and bathrooms. The new envelope will transform the former rigid identity of the building and transform it into a collage of sustainable and durable materials. In addition to the Office Building, a new 2-story, 112 parking spaces Parking Ramp has been allocated to serve the building’s occupants. This project is slated to meet LEED for Gold and will include the collaboration of various design constituency groups who will offer additional programmatic scope of work for the various tenant build-outs.
