Dining Room Addition @ Canterbury Woods
Canterbury Woods is a Continuing Care Residential Community (CCRC) providing elder housing across the spectrum of independent, assisted and skilled levels of licensed services. To compliment its residential amenities, an addition was constructed to include a café with both informal and formal dining experiences. The addition’s design also helped resolve the existing serving access which had been to confusing and inefficient. To enhance the new roofscape for the resident’s apartments above, a vegetative roof was also designed. Delicate phasing was required to not disrupt the facility’s operations and maintain the existing dining and kitchen services throughout the construction. The initial phase added the 3,000 s.f. addition to include the 120 seat informal dining. This allowed residents to continue dining while the renovation phases proceeded in the existing dining. It was renovated to serve as the café line with formal seating and its beverage / waitress station. An evaluation of the existing kitchen layout resulted in its redesign for a more efficient and appropriate staff circulation that reduced the chance for cross contamination of food.
