Cold Spring Community
Awarded 1st Place in the Bethel Community Development Corporation design competition, this project consisted of one-story and two-story designs for the revitalization of Cold Springs – an neighborhood on Buffalo’s East Side. In recognition of the changing housing trends one hundred years ago, our designs were formulated with easy expansion in mind. Both plans have the ability to be expanded, as the owner’s lives change. A master bathroom may be added to complete the master bedroom suite on the first floor. Provision is made for a future addition of a family room to accommodate the family’s growth.
Despite the designs’ compactness, in order to fully respect all spatial restrictions, they provide many amenities for comfortable, modern city life. In order to have the designs bridge between Cold Spring’s past, present, and future, special attention was placed on the new designs’ sensitivity to the neighborhood’s rich architectural context, in particular architectural features such as front porches, bay windows, breezeways, roof dormers are incorporated to both articulate and re-establish a neighborhood friendly streetscape.
