Canterbury Woods is a Continuing Care Residential Community (CCRC) providing elder housing including independent, assisted and skilled levels of licensed services. To offer a variety of dining experiences a 3,000 s.f. addition was designed to relocate and expand the existing informal dining to 120 seats.
Renovation of the existing space provides additional casual seating choices around the new café, while the existing formal dining area was opened to create circulation and visual flow, integrating all spaces into the dining experience. An evaluation of the existing kitchen layout resulted in its redesign for a more efficient and appropriate staff circulation reducing the chance for cross contamination of food. A vegetative roof was included as part of the design to enhance the new roofscape for the resident’s apartments above.
